The Okanogan Apple Tree
25 October 2016
To Irene, the love of my life
Behold, O my love, in spring-time greenThe lone Okanogan Apple Tree -- Whose leaf-clustered branches sway and lean,So come, Kohana, dance with me!
Together we glance at the rose tinted sky,Glowing between the branches above;A fair summer evening slips quietly by,As I take your sweet hands in a gesture of love.
The autumn has come, with a chill in the air And the golden cloaked branches which echo my plea --I gaze in the eyes of Kohana the Fair:"Irene, my love, Will You Marry Me?"
Now winter is here, and the branches are bare And the snow-covered fields are layered in ice;Farewell to Our Tree ‘til the sun warms the air…For in you, O best friend, is my paradise.

Kohana my love, just like with Our Tree, Our hearts go through seasons until our last breath; But the weathered tree stands like a light on the sea, Pointing to Love which is stronger than death.
I love you, my Irene. And I always will. © J. M. Hageman
